This popular vocabulary series offers 3,000 carefully selected words from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books to instruct by using reading, writing, and a variety of exercises. Each 15 word lesson begins with an alphabetized Word list. Pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions also appear in the opening pages. Each word is used in a sentence that clearly conveys its meaning and provides a mnemonic anchor for the word. Grades 2-12. In books A, B and C, developed for grades 2 and 3, students study definitions in each lesson and a sample sentence. In book A, there is an illustration for at least one definition of each word. The number of illustrations decreases in books B and C. The narratives follow a theme - book A is imagine, Book B theme is explore, and book C theme is discover.

Riddles, crossword puzzles, hidden messages, and many other engaging activities help kids in grades 2 through 12 absorb up to 4,050 new vocabulary words in the best way-by using them in context. Students build their reading vocabularies while simultaneously strengthening their reading, critical thinking, and writing skills. Each lesson introduces a dozen new words and includes practice exercises, unique "Wordly Wise" sections discuss etymologies and clear up word confusions. Books for grades 4 to 6 provide glossaries, later books refer students to dictionaries, books for grades 7 to 9 focus on roots prefixes and suffixes and books for grades 10 to 12 discuss analogies, connotations, literal and metaphorical usage, providing students with a complete vocabulary course throughout their education.
